Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Processing
Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) is an electronic system that allows for the transfer of government benefits from a federal account to a retailer account to pay for products received. EBT is currently being used in many states to issue food stamp and other benefits. Over 99.8 percent of food stamp benefits are currently being issued by EBT.

Benefits of EBT

  • EBT reduces food stamp fraud by eliminating paper coupons that may be lost, sold or stolen
  • EBT decreases transaction times compared to paper food stamps
  • Accepting EBT reduces labor costs because there are no coupons to sort, count and bundle
  • EBT improves customer satisfaction and reduces the stigma associated with paper food stamps
How to Accept EBT
In order to accept EBT Government cards, it is necessary to acquire an approved FNS / FCS number from the state agriculture department. Because EBT requires a customer to enter a PIN, it is also necessary to have an internal or external PIN pad for your credit card terminal to accept this form of payment.
